New York Times — strangling on its own banalities

The insipid pabulum that the New York Times serves up when it discusses anything to do with Israel and Palestine is neatly illustrated in today’s editorial entitled, Palestinians at War.

Yes, “In two days of fierce fighting, the gunmen of Hamas have virtually taken over the Gaza Strip. This is a defeat for Palestinians, and a defeat for Israeli and American policy as well,” but where is the outrage?

This issue has been simmering on the front burning ever since the democratic elections gave local credibility to Hamas. So what was the US response? A deliberate policy, spelled out here, to cut off funds to the Palestinian government and thereby strangle it into submission.

Fine, that has now happened and now as the NY Times headlines, Palestinians are at war! But it is a war created by the US and Israel and the West.

So what does the NY Times recommend?

For Washington and Jerusalem to exert constructive influence in this dangerous situation, they urgently need to adopt a new and wiser approach to Palestinian politics. That means doing more to help Mr. Abbas in the only currency that really counts, easing the lives of ordinary Palestinians.

Thanks for that. Most helpful. Pretty sure it will have its impact.

This issue is like the other one the Grey Lady so badly bungled, Iraq.

We seem to be watching the New York Times strangle itself on its own banalities.
