One of the reasons science isn’t getting its message across on Global Warming is that it doesn’t have a PR department.
The best map I could find to tell the story of +4ºC Global Warming is so small it’s almost unreadable.
But it comes from a credible source, William Rees Environmental Scientist at the University of British Columbia, from a speech: The Vulnerability and Resilience of Cities.
Here’s the pitiful map with the explanations typed in below.
MESSAGE TO SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY: GET YOUR FUCKING ACT TOGETHER, WE NEED TO KNOW THIS STUFF.
Explaining the code at the bottom of the pic, from left to right
• Light green — Food growing zone • Light brown — Uninhabitable desert • Dark Brown — Uninhabitable due to floods, drought, extremes • Dark Green — Potential for reforestation • Red — Land lost due to sea levels
The problem is not the scientific community.
It’s the politicians, the media and Big Business.

The politicians, media and Big Business don’t stop the scientific community from getting out a coherent message — the problem with those geeks is that they can’t agree on a coherent message so they opt for safety and say nothing.
Personally, I think the scientific community is filled with smug, self-assured bastards who deal out information on a need-to-know basis, and we don’t need to know.
Guys like Suzuki and Kennedy Jr have to do their work for them and they’re easy and convenient targets.
Imagine not being able to find a decent map on this subject: It should be #1 on Google.
