The US-France dog-fight over Vietnam

Aircraft giants Boeing and Airbus are competing to sell their new jetliners to Vietnam.

Ah, the irony. The US and France dog-fighting in the skies over a state both countries occupied and brutalized.

Couldn’t this have been the fight in the day, too? Commerce; the fight for market share through price and service. Instead, the two powers used their military to try to whip Southeast Asia into line and stop the falling domino of Communism which, itself, was hardly sustainable. But to know that then would have required Intelligence.

And now we have Iraq. Tomorrow, Iran. Two more examples of military solutions to economic opportunities inspired by faulty Intelligence. It’s sickeningly stupid.

The story is here: Sky wars over Vietnam aircraft market.
