The Downside of ‘The Biggest Losers’

I’m always pulling for these guys. It’s tough to be fat — losing a bunch of weight is a great personal victory.

The hit TV show The Biggest Loser has fatties dropping pounds by the case lot — it’s engaging TV watching people get healthy, get happier — accomplish their goals.

But. according to this NY Times article Big Losers, but Can Viewers Keep the Pace? it ain’t a lot of fun to watch if you’re struggling with your own weight problem: what is your lousy two pound drop compared to their 30 pound plummet?

And if it looks too good to be true, it probably is: some of those great shrinking bodies are courtesy of too much time in the sauna.

But it’s engaging TV and this is a very interesting article.
