The hardcore: 20% of us won’t butt out

One in 5 Canadians and Americans still smoke. But where?

It depends on the province/state, but pretty much everywhere (I think) you can’t smoke in bars and restaurants and coffee shops, in theatres, in the workplace, in other people’s homes, in federal/state/provincial buildings, near access/egress points — pretty much all the best places there were to smoke.

Now you see these pathetic creatures huddling to drag and chat and look guilty together until they can get in their cars to get home and really get at it.

Not to moralize at all, but it’s really quite amazing that 1 in 5 of us still go to the trouble.

It was once hard to stop because the opportunities to smoke were everywhere, now they are pretty much nowhere yet 20% of us still hang on.

Oh, for the good old days of abysmal ignorance.

  1. Hee, guilty. There will be a vaccine next year or two, NicVax, stops pleasure from crossing blood-brain barrier. I’ll wait to make sure it doesn’t stop any other pleasure from getting thru to my brain, cuz it is the pleasure center after all.
