Dying planet, dying citizens — and do-nothing leaders. What’s the purpose of politics?

What a great week for US Republican neanderthals.

First, the leading Republican on the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma, declared 2009 “The Year of the Skeptic” referring to his take on Climate Change.

Then, US Republicans voted as one to stop the debate on Health Care reform.

When a dying planet and dying citizens can’t inspire leaders to act, one wonders what the purpose of politics actually is.
